Stage 07

Walls

Assess each external wall using the correct Clause 5.5 route and retain its construction and boundary evidence.

What you will learn

  • Distinguish Category 1 single-leaf masonry from general walls.
  • Understand the 270 kg/m² Table 6/7 classification boundary.
  • Document metal thermal breaks, finishes and attached-space boundaries.

Prepare before you start

  • Wall type schedule and served areas
  • Layer materials, thicknesses, density and specific heat
  • Category 1, construction, finish and thermal-boundary evidence

Step by step

Complete this stage

1

Choose the Clause 5.5 route

Use Category 1 single-leaf masonry only when building eligibility is confirmed; otherwise use the general wall route.

2

Assign the wall scope

Record the storey, occupancy or tenancy and applicable wall area served by the design.

3

Build and classify the assembly

Enter layers in construction order. The app derives total R, surface density and CR, then applies Table 6 at or above 270 kg/m² or Table 7 below it.

4

Complete construction evidence

Confirm nominal masonry thickness, Table 6 finish, any R 0.20 metal thermal break, and how attached excluded spaces preserve the main envelope.

Quality check

  • Category 1 eligibility and 140 mm nominal thickness are both evidenced.
  • Unknown energy zones remain under review.
  • Each materially different wall and attachment boundary has its own traceable record.

Use this guide with the current project documents, official standards available to your team and the review required for your professional role.
