Stage 13

U / SHGC designer

Design a multi-pane opening and prepare whole-opening U-value and SHGC data for the fenestration schedule.

What you will learn

  • Lay out panes using practical dimensions.
  • Select frame and glazing materials from the libraries.
  • Understand how frame, mullion and pane inputs affect the design result.

Prepare before you start

  • Overall opening width and height
  • Pane widths and opening types
  • Frame, mullion and glazing specifications

Step by step

Complete this stage

1

Set the overall size

Enter the complete opening width and height in metres or millimetres, following the project preference.

2

Build the pane layout

Add panes, enter their widths and choose fixed, hung, casement, sliding, awning or hopper operation as appropriate.

3

Set framing geometry

Enter perimeter frame and mullion thickness so the visual and area allocation reflect the proposed system.

4

Apply the result

Review the calculated design data, then apply it to the intended fenestration opening.

Quality check

  • Pane widths reconcile with the overall opening.
  • Opening symbols match the selected operation.
  • Material values are checked against the intended product before issue.

Use this guide with the current project documents, official standards available to your team and the review required for your professional role.
